Flooring Questions & Answers

Resolve the detail that is holding up your next decision.

One unanswered question can stall the next decision

Measuring, interpreting a finish name, or comparing an allowance can be enough to hold up a project. Start with the question closest to your situation, then use the linked guide for the full explanation.

Answers you can use in your project brief

How do I measure a garage with an alcove?

Measure separate rectangles and add length × width for each, without overlapping areas. A 20 × 20-foot main area and a separate 5 × 10-foot alcove total 450 sq. ft. List steps and vertical surfaces separately. See the measurement and scope example.

What if I do not know what is already on the floor?

Choose “I do not know.” Record the visible appearance and any peeling, stains, or cracks; do not guess the chemistry from color. Keep photographs for the contractor’s assessment. Whether a layer can remain depends on its condition and the proposed system. Start with documenting the existing floor.

Does a one-day application mean I can park that evening?

No. Application, walking, vehicle use, and full cure are separate milestones. Get the vehicle-return instruction for the whole specified system and actual conditions. The named product examples show why early foot traffic and full cure can differ.

Which price should I compare when one bid has allowances?

Add items excluded from the headline price, identify what is provisional, and compare the same repair scope. An allowance is not a fixed commitment to repair every defect. The two-bid example shows how a lower headline price can become the higher subtotal.

Where do the calculator’s prices come from?

You enter the rates and extra amount. Floor Forge does not supply automatic per-square-foot rates or repair multipliers. Area × your rate + your extras produces each end of the range. Read the calculation method; it does not establish a local market price.

Can I request a review with no measurements or budget?

Yes. Leave area and budget fields blank and describe the question in your notes. The request records the area as unknown. You can also enter an approximate area and label it as approximate. A contractor bid is not included in the review.

Can I choose a finish from the garage illustrations?

Use them to discuss a visual direction. Decide on the installed finish from a representative physical sample, including flake size, color, sheen, and texture in your lighting. The illustrations are not completed Floor Forge projects or a guarantee of the finished appearance.

What should I keep after installation?

Keep the written scope, exact product names, return-to-use schedule, care instructions, warranty terms, and contractor contact. Record any agreed exclusions. The handover checklist explains the maintenance information to obtain.

How do I compare warranties and check the installer?

Compare covered failures, exclusions, who handles a claim, and the remedy—including whether labor is covered. Look up the contractor using California CSLB’s license check and request insurance documentation. A long warranty term does not replace either the scope or those checks.

I sent a request. How do I check on it?

A success message confirms that your request was saved for manual review. Keep its reference. Email david@hashbit.it with the reference or your original submission email. No fixed reply time or contractor match is promised. If receipt was unconfirmed, the same contact can check before you resend.

Does a garage system also suit commercial or outdoor concrete?

That requires a separate assessment of use and exposure. Document traffic, liquids, cleaning, sunlight, weather, and downtime. Read commercial project planning or concrete-coating preparation before assuming a garage proposal fits another area.

Does Floor Forge install the flooring?

No. Floor Forge provides planning guides and manual review of project questions. Contractor bids, site assessment, installation, and warranties come from the businesses you hire. See About Floor Forge for the review scope.

Leave with a clearer next step

  • Identify which details you can record yourself.
